Vehix elevates consumer voices in its newest video content
A couple of weeks ago Elastic Lab uploaded 18 finished episodes for client approval. It was the first time I’d seen a big body of our work in one place. After building my web page, I checked the links by watching every episode from start to finish. (They’re about 3 minutes long.)
That hour was enlightening. I thought I knew what we had going for us. Now, I’m sure. These episodes are chock full of real people sharing their personal opinions about the cars they drive, keeping their kids safe, traveling with pets and squeezing into that perfect parking space. Like real life, the spots are sometimes educational and sometimes entertaining. We never know. The remarkable thing is that all these people shared their opinions because they wanted to, and did so with an honesty that can’t be scripted.
Vehix is a big brand in the automotive space. Like so many big brands, they understand both the growing demand for original video and the value of individual voices. Visitors to Vehix’s site who are in the midst of the car-buying process will be able to balance the views of experts with the real world experiences of people all across the country. Take a look at some of the episodes on our site, and watch for lots more at Vehix.com.

Meet our Video Production Manager
As Glenn said, it’s been a crazy few months with each of us wearing a lot of hats, some of which fit more comfortably than others. I’ve learned so much from my partners and our advisors. But, as I’ve shepherded these early projects through to completion, I’m most amazed by what I’ve learned from our filmmakers. They are independent, talented and clearly dedicated to filmmaking, professionally and personally. They’re willing to work remotely for people they’ve never met. They’re interesting, responsible and overwhelmingly kind. I look forward to continued relationships with all of our filmmakers, just in a slightly less day-to-day role. With that, I pass one of my hats to our new Video Production Manager. Take good care of these guys, Rob.
Rob Korotky joins Elastic Lab with experience in both traditional film production and new media. A graduate in Cinema/TV Production from the University of Southern California, Rob has managed post-production facilities in Hollywood and produced new media properties including live webcasts, podcasts and online learning programs for a successful Internet company. An independent filmmaker in his own right, he has shot and field produced both documentary and narrative films. In this new role as Elastic Lab’s Video Production Manager, Rob handles outgoing project invitations, and is our filmmakers’ primary contact during the production process.
Rob is an important creative and technical addition to our team as we continue to grow and define this new digital space. He’s also an all-round nice guy. Please make him feel welcome. Read more about the entire Elastic Lab team at: http://www.elasticlab.com/about/team.php.

Celebrating our 10th month with a new video-rich website
This post marks our tenth month of operation. And man, it’s been a wild ride. We’ve spent much of this time in the experimental mode, inventing the methods, models and processes for creating crowd-sourced video content in the long-tail environment. We call this phase being “in the garage,” where inventors invent. In the past couple of months, we’ve begun applying our learning and successes to creating over 60 long-form video segments to date, in collaboration with our network of 230+ filmmakers, in over 100 markets across the country. Our efforts, as you can see in our video samples, have been primarily focused on the automotive category. More recently, we’ve extended into lifestyle areas related to real estate, healthcare, lifestyle, financial, technology, travel and tourism, recreation and entertainment, home improvement and family.
Like any proper internet start-up culture, there have been plenty of long nights, pizzas, beer, indigestion, sweat, stress-induced breakdowns, celebratory breakouts, investor jitters, 11th-hour crises, 11th-and-a-half-hour heroics, and huge thank yous for the hundreds of people who deserve credit for the successes we’ve achieved.
As one of my good friends and board members has been known to say, “There’s a pig in this poke somewhere.” Paraphrased, you might say that there is a dearth of solutions for creating compelling, long-tail video. But Elastic Lab is able to deliver the authenticity of consumer influencers and user-generated content with professional production values. And we do it with the economic efficiency required for ad-supported, digital media properties.
We’ve come a long way in ten months. I hope our new website reflects that. But, believe me, the fun has just begun. Follow us here on our blog, as we highlight the exploits of the amazing filmmakers that participate in the Elastic Lab network, and as we tell stories of experimentation in film, video and multimedia art.
Cheers,
